The Shuar Documentation Project began with an initiative by a group of young Shuar with the objective of investigating, documenting and strengthening the culture and language “Shuar Chicham”, as well as training young Shuar in linguistics and ethnographic research so they can carry on the work themselves. This initiative began in 2006 with the personal assistance of Dr. Connie Dickinson and by 2009 we had already collected some 30 hours of videos, transcribed and translated into Spanish in the computer program ELAN. The work continued in 2009 with further assistance from Maurizio Gnerre. In May 2010 with a generous grant from the National Science Foundation of the United States we began the second phase of the project, this time with an emphasis on the transcription and translation of audio tapes recorded between the years 1955 to 1965 by the Salesian missionary P. Siro Pellizaro. The preservation and archiving of these recordings is of vital importance, in that the information contained in these recordings includes myths, customs, traditions and rituals that have disappeared from the present day collective consciousness of the Shuar. In 2011 Grégory Deshoullière, a PhD candidate in Social Anthropology (EHESS, France) joined the project adding materials he has recorded to the project and editing and revising the texts as well as contributing his knowledge and anthropological perspective. The young Shuar involved in the project include: Tuntiak Katan, that has worked with Dr. Dickinson since the beginning of the project and is the field director for the new project; Kenia Unkuch, a young Shuar woman who has worked on the project since 2008; Doris Atsamp, Carmen Atsamp and Saida Unkuch, young professional woman who are dedicated to reinforcing the Shuar culture. We are presently training a new young group of Shuar in the technology and expertise necessary to carry out a large documentation project.es_ES

Sin embargo, los shuar se organizaron guiados por un shuar que llegó de tierras lejanas y siguiendo las gotas de la sangre de las victimas dieron con el escondite de los Jeencham y les mataron. dc.content.descriptionThis myth related how the 'Jeencham' (bats), who were at that time humans, were exterminating the Shuar. However the Shuar, guided by a Shuar from a far off land, tracked the 'Jeencham', following the drops of blood and killed them. The 'Jeencham' converted into animals.es_ES
